    Crawling through the ditches is the only thing my boat is good at, so gonna tip my toe in most of them before I go for something bigger

    That picture is on the early flood, probably at least a couple of hours before HW.
    Came past today during a big spring and considerably more water.

    It's a spooky area, with old bones, human and animal,rising out of the nameless sludge after a heavy storm. We dinghied over to explore Dead Mans Island, I think it's called, between Stangate and the Swale, and got chased away by a screaming madman with a huge club, god knows what he didn't want us to see! There are thousands of corpses in the ooze apparently.

    The burials were from the prison and fever isolation hulks that were moored in the area.
    The bodies were not allowed ashore for burial because of fears of infecting the local population.
    it is possible to still see the outlines of coffins in the mud.
