    Default Hurricane Dorian

A cat 5. It has just hit the Abacos with the eye passing over. 185mph winds and a predicted storm surge up to 18’ to 23’. Rather particularly ugly I’d say.

    Excellent day for sailing

In all seriousness, I hope everyone stays safe and moves to safe harbors if they can. Not some I'd want to be right now at any rate.

We had a brilliant sailing holiday in the Abacos many years ago but the whole place is barely above sea level. Dorian is going to wreak a huge amount of damage.

The video in this news report shows many upturned boats.

If my foresight was as good as my hindsight, I would be a multi-millionaire.

Serious flooding and destruction there. Looks deadly, as implied by that forecast storm surge.

Much of that immense energy is likely to come barrelling across the North Atlantic, later, in our direction.

The media are speculating on Dorian's effect on the UK, one says we are due for a spell of cold wet and windy, another one is promising a scorching heat wave..

The synoptic and the rainfall predictions on passageweather.com are very helpful.

That's pretty clever of them. The storm is moving at 10kts, so will be here in a few weeks. They can only just about get the forecast right for the next few days.
