Could almost be the Committee boat at Royal Dartmouth Sailing Regatta event. Not one, but two hits on outer course and at least one each on middle and inner courses.

OK - a 2+kt tide against 20-25kts of wind but surely something wrong with the boats' tactics for the start.

How were the numbers of competing boats compared to last year? Certainly in the river everything seemed exceptionally quiet.

Numbers, overall were about 10% down. Dinghies, both snr up at D'sum and Jnrs in the mouth kept up or increased but the "extra" events were down as was non IRC. A long week for a family regatta. The actual racing was stupendous however with good reasonably steady winds, although the spring tides caught a lot of people out. Lots of sunburnt faces and only one day of having some rain. 2 races a day made for tired crews.

Shoreside there were changes and generally thought to be quieter which pleased most sailing folk. I would think bar takings were good.

Unfortunately not according to the barman at the Dart YC.

    Hopefully much better at RDYC
