Default Specialist Diesel work on your boat

    Just a short note.

After my engine service i had my diesel tank cleaned - recommended by the mechanic.

I paid a lot of money for this.

Having suffered from diesel leaks since then, I finally found the fuel filter had been ‘gorrillad’ on and the bowl cracked. Sorted.
Then I had a smaller diesel leak, cost me £12 to sort out the gasket which was in a dreadful state.

I will never trust an expert/engineer again.

I have just had a bill for close on a grand for completely unsuccessful attempts to solve a starting problem with my engine. When I finally had time to devote myself to the problem I found and replaced the faulty fuse (intermittent contact) within ten minutes. Ho-hum.

Doesn’t sound like they were very expert.

How come we are so reluctant to name and shame.

So who was it, the man or company you are allowing to be chosen by one of us, to also cost us a grand, because you won't name them? It's not libel to complain about goods and services..

Looks like you found a bodger not an engineer.

I've found an excellent mechanic who is just brilliant at fixing stuff. Take time to find yourself a good one, they are worth their weight in gold.
Cynical Scottish very nearly retired engineer who sails a Gib'Sea 96.

I understand folk wanting naming and shaming, but if the company found out you could end up in difficult waters with legal cost etc.

In the Southampton area I’d be happy to tell privately who did not perform for me, but a public statement is far too risky.

That said, Portmere Rubber are brilliant, very helpful.

The OP's post is a clear and relatively unemotional statement of facts. Unless the company is going to claim that the fuel filter wasn't cracked, or that the gasket is in an acceptable state, I can't see that they'd have any case whatsoever.
