That's because the guarantee covers repair or replacement. Mine was replaced FOC.

Doesn't being able to offer such a lavish guarantee merely confirm that the product is grossly over-priced in the first place?

    Hello John,
is there anywhere in France where I could try one of these Tilley hats, just to check size, feel, etc ?

I am fond of hats I have a couple of dozens, I would not risk missing the Tilley effect

    cheers

I think they only test a percentage of hats using elephants.

When you find some to try on, do follow the instructions about sizing: they need to be a surprisingly loose fit.

I was bought one as a present (I wouldn't have spent that much on a hat) and thought I knew better, wanting a tighter fit than advised by the instructions and shopkeeper in order to stop it being blown off. I soon realised that the tight fit was a mistake (and it's the adjustable cords at front and back that hold it on in a high wind), but really liked the hat. I soldiered on for quite a while, but eventually bought myself one the correct size - much more comfortable - and gave the other away (to a Frenchman , as it happens).

As someone has said, it doesn't just keep the sun off, it keeps the rain off too - especially useful if you wear glasses.
