Default So many silver cars...why so few silver yachts?

(I invite readers to note that I began the title with the word "So", correctly, unlike the mindless many who cannot commence any comment or reply without it...I predict some examples in the responses below... )

I don't think much of silver (or the even more drab grey) as a car-paint colour, but since it accounts for six million UK cars, why is it such a rare choice for yacht topsides?

Is it a question of choice, or a technical matter of the difficulty of emulsifying silvery particles in marine paint?

We expect a car to look like a tin can.

    But not a boat...

    Plenty of exceptions of course...

is it because cars are metallic anyway, and gelcoat is naturally white?

So, not keen on grey? I just bought a grey Nissan Qashqai totally on purpose. Mainly because many of their car colours are hideous ( in my opinion ), also travelling the rural outbacks grey tends to hide the dust and dirt. Last car was black, always difficult to keep smart. White is also a no-no for me. So, grey it is!!!

Is there anything (other than the owner's taste) that prevents a steel yacht being chromium-plated?
