    Default Tools that don't rust

I'd be interested to know what you all use for tools on your boats. I bought a rather nice socket kit, but it eventually started rusting.

I can't seem to find any 'Stainless Steel' specific tool sets online. Does anyone have any tips on rust prevention etc? I tend to keep my tools in the engine bay area.

A smear of petroleum jelly helps.

Or a waterproof tool box and an occasional wipe with Duck Oil.

Stainless tools are not as hard as non S/S tools in general.

Plenty of bronze tools available - at a price. Used in oil refineries etc. Cheaper to use a smear of oil or grease on what you've got.

Makes sense, will perhaps put a bit of WD40 on them and fingers crossed.

    Many thanks.

Worked for us but in a limited way, not a total solution.

I wrap or cover my tools in a lightly oiled cloth depending on container / toolbox. Ratchets, shifters and plier types I keep the mechanism oiled with Plusgas to stop them seizing

Any number of unguents to stop such things rusting, but is there any of them which doesn't make the tools slippery or leave a dirty mark every time you put it down?
