    I’d say he’s a lucky fellow.

    £3,000 for a helo, 2x lifeboats, ambulances, and court time ...can’t beat that!

    Best of all, nobody was seriously injured, or worse

    A lot of nutters drive power boats around the Fal, a grave menace at night, this is not the only case:

    Had the pair in the dinghy been wearing lifejackets, showing lights, not in a wooden boat and with the passenger facing forward the outcome might well have been identical; except for the fine.

    Certainly some fine lines crossed.

    But at the end of the day, they ended up in the water, so clearly they made one mistake too many.
    £3k is a lot to pay for the authorites' arguably disproportionate response, but had things got worse then throwing all available assets at it would soon have been justified.
