Default New offshore liferaft needed - where to buy?

Mine is good for the skip. I am looking for a new one, the type with the longer service interval. Has anyone been down this path recently and found a good quality source at a fair price?

    Have you considered renting?

We 'sold' ours back to I think it was Ocean Safety and then rented them back, that way we weren't responsible for anything other than sending them back or actually they collected them and the rental.

We got lucky, the very next service they condemned a 12 man offshore raft - saved us a huge amount of money! Don't think they were too happy though...

I need to buy one as I am very unlikely to be able to return it easily.

FWIW Plastimo rafts come out regularly on top in comparative studies.

Without getting into the “which liferaft” debate, Mylor Chandlery do reasonable deals on a number of makes. Website here https://www.mylorchandlery.co.uk/liferafts/

    What's an "offshore" liferaft?

Liferaft selection needs to go beyond purchase price, service availability and price is also a consideration. I used to get my Seago ISO9650-1 serviced locally but now it has to return to Seago with the problem of transport - couriers tend not to like carrying pyrotechnics. So consider where you are likely to be in 3 years.

For me it is one that complies with the MCA regulations for Class XII vessels and built to the ISO 9650-1:2005 – Small Craft Inflatable Liferafts Part 1 Type 1 Group A standard and with an ISO pack for >24hrs. For other boats there may be different definitions.

ADEC are helpful and relatively inexpensive.
