Default Prop shaft query

I am still rebuilding my 1953 FMD- 'skimming dish', and have to find a propeller. However. . the shaft , which is worn, I think I should replace with a modern stainless one. I have been advised to try to fit a 30mm shaft , as these are readily available and props similarly.
I don't know about reaming out the bronze shaft log. .any advice ? Should I just stick to the original shaft dia, of 1 1/8"- -28.5 mm. or is the world changing and I haven't noticed ? Of course . .ANY advice will be lapped up. . .thanks guys. Erik.

Imperial shaft sizes are readily available in the UK no problems at all.

I'd suggest leaving as it is.

As the other poster mentioned we are hanging on to imperial as are those in the USA and Canada.

Try these people for Shafts etc

Agree there is no problem getting shafts made to imperial sizes. However most "off the shelf" ones from suppliers such as Vetus are metric.

I would have the shaft and prop made for the boat rather than the other way round.

If you can find a suitable friendly machine shop it can be a lot cheaper to have a shaft custom made compared to what you would pay for a ready made one. At least that was my experience.

Hamble Propellors.
Freindly and helpfull advice. Not the cheapest but quality machining etc. They check new shafts for straightness every time.

First Marine propulsion in Shamrock Quay would be my suggestion.
