Default Yanmar Hitachi 60 amp alternator info

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or info on this rare beast?
Repair and fault diagnosis would be nice
Not easy to find anyone that knows much about this model and mine has developed a fault
Sigh, why dont main dealers actually know anything much technical about the engines they sell
Cheers
Joe

It's pretty much the same as all of them. Suggest you go to an automotive alternator repairer or get one from a car breakers yard, the same alternator is used on some of the japanese 4 x 4's and cars.
One thing you can try first is undoing the bolts and cleaning everything you can see. The bolts secure some of the electrical connections.

If you give these people a ring they rebuild alternators and starter motors. Very helpfull and good people to deal with. They also have an Ebay shop.

Seeing you are in South London, down at Shannon's Corner (just off the Merton Road/A3 junction, go down the left lane and turn left, they are right there) there's a re-wind electrical place who might be able to help you. They are called Shannon Electrical, doing all types, Lucas, Bosch & the like. I know the Trade used to go there. Their web site is:

Alternators are extremely simple devices, a rotor, a stator and a regulator.

Can you be more specific with any particular faults you are suffering from?

Of course, the rotor bearings can also develop a fault.

Thanks all for your thoughts
I have a repair place near me that can fix it if need be.
I was more looking for a service manual for it.
Its not the same as the usual Hitachi alternators that are in the repair manual i have or the ones shown by adverc.
The engine is about 4 years old and a 2gmf with the original standard alternator
its really anoying that i cant seem to get any srvice info for it to identify or repair the problem
The problem is that i think its been damaged along with the adverc that was fitted due to the sense wire from the adverc being conected to the wrong place.
It no longer shows any life from the alternator warning light unles i pull the double spade insulated fitting out of the back of the alternator and put it back in again.
Once this is done it shows the light which goes out as usual when the engine starts but needs the plug pulled out and put back in again every time!
Lol
Some confusion was arrived at over the alternator a couple of weeks ago with adverc about where the sense wire should have been put causing this problem.
We think it may have been put on the tacho wire from the alternator but with no manual for it i have no idea what the wire from the alternator actually is.
Amp guage still shows 35 plus amps charging and 13.8 volts at battery which is a gel battery of large size.
Of course i have no way of knowing if thses are the correct amps and voltages i would expect from a good 60 amp Hitachi alternator as i dont have a manual to test it by or any info to help me see if its dmaged or not.
To my mind its like a switch in the alternator is staying open on the charge light side of the energising wiring once its had a 12 volt supply run down it. Only getting re set when the plug is being pulled out and then put back in.
Of course it may be that the regulator is more damaged than this and its also not charging correctly. But again i have no way of finding out.
Guess i could live without a warning light working as long as the rest of its ok if you see what i mean.
Also interesting to note that when it was first run up it all worked fine with the voltages and amps that adverc said it should have. And only after a few hours running did i notice the charge lights not working any more.
All very anoying and frustrating when you try your best to get things right and it still screws up after having read all the relavant paper work, made the phone calls to make sure etc
I have resigned myself to the fact that the adverc is dead but was hoping to save the alternator if i could due to the whole thing (if i have to buy new, Which i wont be ) costing me a small fortune and having ruined what was a new adverc and perfectly good Hitachi alternator
Must be a moral hear somewhere!
Anyways
Thanks for all your thoughts and sorry for any bad spelling etc as i am dyslexic and dont allways have the time to spend spell and grammer checking everything i write.
Joe

Hey Joe - Thanks for the detailed reply.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your grammar and spelling and it is a load better than some people who write to the forum, well done.
