Default Prop shaft query

I am still rebuilding my 1953 FMD- 'skimming dish', and have to find a propeller. However. . the shaft , which is worn, I think I should replace with a modern stainless one. I have been advised to try to fit a 30mm shaft , as these are readily available and props similarly.
I don't know about reaming out the bronze shaft log. .any advice ? Should I just stick to the original shaft dia, of 1 1/8"- -28.5 mm. or is the world changing and I haven't noticed ? Of course . .ANY advice will be lapped up. . .thanks guys. Erik.
