How can I get from Alicanti to Almerimar, bus or train please.

There are some boats for sale in Almerimar that I would like to view.

I can get to Alicanti from Sweden by Ryan Air but it looks a long way to Almerimar so what would be the best way to get there?

Just a thought, but have you thought of contacting some of the several yacht brokers in Almerimar and asking them the same question. I would have thought that as you are a buyer they would go out of there way to help you. good luck

I have lived in Sweden for too long to be objective. I arrived here 15 years ago after ten years cruising the Med and Caribbean. Sweden is still a country where a 27 foot boat is an average size. For instance, the yacht a few slots along to my Folkboat is an enormous 34 foot Bavaria. Overhangs the slip by about 2 feet.

I need to walk around a cruising community for a day or two (in the sunshine) to get back into perspective what is available and what size. Believe me, I am not joking, but I cannot even imagine what a 40 foot sailing yacht looks like any more. Maybe if I was in Stockholm ...

For that reason I cannot involve a broker or another forumite for a preview until I have got myself back in the mind frame of cruising.

I must lose the folkboat mindset.

I plan to amble around and look and chat to folk about their boat, especially if it is for sale.

I must admit that Almerimar is not my first choice. I would prefer to amble around the Ionian but there is no doubt that Almerimar is easier to get at from Sweden.

I have cruised through S. Spain to Baleares and stopped in Almerimar twice. It is a pleasant place. There is no train link down the East coast, or along the South Coast to Almeria. Have you considered flying into Malaga, which gives you a shorter journey on Mway all the way to Almeria. You can bus it, but consider hiring a car for a week and take in the sights along the way - Marina del Este, Harbour at Adra and Almerimar. Almerimar is a bit out on a limb, so car is better. There is a cheap Hotel Sol in the marina. Almeria is an interesting town with a harbour and another marina nearby. There are many liveaboards in Almeria so dont get trapped by one agent. Talk around!

I think the Car hire is good idea. Here in Almerimar there many many boats for sale all sizes so you can chat and amble around. Also some Swedish yachties.

Thanks for that I will look into flights to Malaga. Ryan air fly from Gothenburg direct to Barcelona and Alicante. They also fly direct to Marseille. These are the only yachty destinations in the sunshine from Gothenburg. Mr Ryan is not a sailing man.

I know myself. The more difficult a place is to get to, the more determined I will be to find something to buy just to justify the journey.

I do need to combat my impulse to buy the first thing I see that ALMOST ticks the boxes.

The boxes I must tick are, long keel or encapsulated fin lead ballast perhaps. LOA around 10 meters give or take. Price in Sterling so I don't have to give my greedy bank any more of my loot for FX. This translates to an English couple selling their boat in the Med. Do i stand a chance?

You may be in Euroland. I am not. There are plenty of British yachts in the Med priced in Sterling by UK owners with UK bank accounts (like me for instance). Three at least are in Almerimar.
