As it is new, it will most probably have a thermocouple on each burner. This is a device that cuts off the gas if the burner doesn't light. So when you light a burner, you have to depress the control knob for a few seconds to wait for the thermocouple to heat up in the flame so as the gas doesn't get shut off.

I believe that this is the only BSS requirement for a hob.
