Fear not young Gary.... As said many times before, the engine block would have to be one of the most mass produced on the planet, simple and reliable, with appropiate maintenance.

You don't hear horror stories from folks that actually look after their boats.

A well tuned/maintained EFI will use the same fuel as a four stroke outboard (HP for HP), parts are cheap, if you know where to look.

You could look at new fishing options offshore with an upgrade like that, and over-nighting as well, with appropiate canvas. Keep your options open and check out brands that are identified as more 'offshore oriented', if fishing is going to be a priority.

While its on a trailer, fuel options/availability are wide and varied also.
