Any one in Las Palmas or know the city well??

Planning our yearly autumn/winter visit to Gran Canaria next year and thought I would book it to coincide with the start of the ARC, however we always stay in the south and only go to Las Palmas to satisfy the wife's shopping addiction and do not know the harbour area too well. Does any one know if you are allowed onto the harbour wall? or indeed the best vantage point tosee the start from?

Yes, you can walk along the harbour wall in fact it is a local pastime. Many evenings a family would sit on the bench just above our stern and watch every move we made. It was a bit like being an exhibit in a zoo. There is nothing to stop you walking the pontoons either, just don't expect everyone to be falling over themselves to offer you a berth.

I missed the point about seeing the start. It's a very long line and quite a way off shore. The best spectacle is all the boats leaving the marina. You can stand on the mole right by the entrance so you'll get a grandstand seat.

The atmosphere is quite fun...

sleopard is quite right, go all the way around the outside, park and walk to outside wall to see the start. There will be loads of berths from that night, of course, shd you want one.

thanks for the info, However I fear I may have misled you to thinking I will be going by boat, unfortunatley I am no where near competent enough to reach the Canary Islands.......the boat will be tucked up in the marina when we fly over and do the touristy thing
