I think I might deploy my special blue string on Saturday, it is a lovely colour, tother advantage is, it hardly needs tieing down at tuther end, just dribble it on the pontoon and pee on it. It's also the reserve trim tab, just move it about a bit and you get a lisp. Tuther boats can be tied with the light weight white ropes, cleats are no good though, so just wrap them round the cabin.

The blue rope was rescued from the poor box at the swindlers in Plymouth, it was there as a sort of anchor, it was a windy day. Trouble with big ropes is, it gets awfull boreing, you cant wear them out, or even scuff them much, well not so you would notice. They are with you for ever, a reminder of your mistake, unlike little ropes that were to small, which are gone in a puff and soon replaced.

Just a thought. I could droop the nice blue rope round Angle Sea and just haul tuther boats round on the wind lass.

Thinking a bit, well were not coming till tomorrow now. Shall I bring some special edition flags, or even a normal one. I can see the special edition ones are getting a bit of a cult following, so may need to stock up with them.

Shall I tell every one about the super tanker coming, or keep quiet about that!!

Full Moon - November 13th Now corrected to the 16th and of course it a NEW MOON.
So that makes a Balls of the following O sh(1)t I give up.

The full moon is shaped like a disc and occurs between 14-15 days after the new moon. This moon phase is a time of abundance ,completeness, fertile. The full moon affects us in many different ways, you may notice around the full moon time you become emotional, easily irritated and cautious. Spells being cast over the full moon phase are very potent and add maximum strength to your spell that is being cast. Every full moon psychic shine provides a full moon casting service where the full moon night is dedicated to you. The period of the Full Moon lasts from about 3 days before to 3 days after the actual full moon

Now this could be the ingredients of a recipe for some early goings on no doubt.

Yep found this and did not look at the date at the bottom of the page O well I suppose it can still apply.

I am coming by car early AM Sunday with mate Dave.
I just have so much on at the mow but would have loved to have hitched a ride on MF
out of the pool I presume.
A trip "round the world" as we used to call going around Anger sea, though the Skerries am sure there are still some of the waves I have met in the past still hanging around there and know a few of the rocks as well we went in between the Skerries rocks on one trip and bumped about on them.
The Skipper insisted he knew what he was doing then admitted he had only done it previously in a dingy.
May be some other time.
Be nice to meet up with you all again, good to see doggy and his good lady as well.

Well seeing as everybody seems to have given up guessing what Kwackers new vessel might be, it's a Ribeye 785S with a 300 yamaha two stroke.
I claim the prize, half hour at the helm. Can I book it for a hot sunny afternoon in June please!

it's a Ribeye

Thought that was something that you ordered with chips. Mind you if its a large durex type thingy, at least he wont be causing much damage to paintwork.

And,...... a hot day in June Ha!

That will teach me to jump in with the first thing I find.
I thought it would rase a giggle more than that.

Daft ! Far from it the guy is well read and could give Bamber Gascoigne a run for his money (remember him?). Jolly nice chap and a lovely lady partner to boot, I think he spends a lot of time mulling things over.

Eber wheres that come from?? I've got a Weberspatcher these days, mind it's still a pile of junk, just like the eber. We use the 20 quid, twenty year old fan heater mostly and save the webber for emergency use. Whether ebber or webber, it's a few hundred quid a night to use.

I have just been notified that my cockpit "conservatory" is completed, so I may be able to get down to check it out before I cough up with the final payment.

Saturday's storms & gales may be the best way to test it.

I will probably have the family tagging along, but will try to drop by & say hello if I can shake them off.

We have arrived at Conwy and made contact with LIttle Ship who is anchored in Mole Free and is attempting to make Conwy tomorrow. WE were attempting to leave Conwy tomorrow, but struggling with the latest heating malfunction and both not feeling well.

Peeps arriving with the early tide.
Peeps will mither about a bit for a while then start on the Pop I reckon.
As per previous answer to a previous post, probably on a previous page!

'Suns and Yardarms' where mentioned.

By the time Suns do set the Yardarms (and other bits) will be wilting.

No Formal arrangements ref sustinace as evening approaches, have been made or will be I think.

Previous gatherings have tended to be kinda ad hoc ref bywyd.

Cyrw, normally takes preference, hereabouts.
A sort of liquid cinio normally followed by dibin bach o picio!

Oops! sorry, slipped into a bit of Ancient British there

OK , kinda like metzess, if we go with another ancient lingo.

So its basically turn up and do what the Romans do innit
'Segontium' the Roman word/place name for Caernarfon.

Translates by the way, To!
'Searush'
E
G one
O n
N ew
T ricycle
I n
U rry
M ethinks.

See, lots of the Forumites by ere have Ancient connections.
Cripes.
Just look at the rushing sailor's Av
Just look at the rushing sailor fer real

No I think the Food will be the 'Food of Life' plus the 'borrox' ( there's the Chinese bit sorted that will be at Table

I am looking forward to Your profferings to said Picnic

By the time Suns do set the Yardarms (and other bits) will be wilting.

Try this http://www.google.co.uk/language_tools?hl=en and then copy and paste what you want to translate, loads of languages to choose from!
Look forward to meeting up again, is your family coming as well or has she told you what you can do with your 'North Wales Frostbite Meeting'?

Nowt special on at Royal welsh on Saturday, but I'm sure Les will welcome you. He likes a lively crowd. I can phone ahead & warn them, or would you prefer it to be a surprise?

Diolch Searush, thought your local knowledge of the Royel Welsh would come in handy!
Reckon it would be bad manners not to boost their coffers somewhat.
Think a quick bell letting them know there could be an influx, might be in order.

However,to quote No.s and or to suggest a time etc at this juncture would be risky.

Blimey after 237 Posts we still don't know who exactly or how many will be landing!
Good innit!!!

OK guys (& gals), I have spoken to Les (the Steward at the Royal Welsh) and he will be delighted to offer you our hospitality. You will, of course, need to sign in, but the Guiness is good, they have Jamesons & Laphroiag plus some reasonable wines in small bottles (or big ones if you prefer to buy in bulk!) plus some fancy bottled beers. So at least we will have somewhere warm to go (after Foos? - but not too late, the bar closes at 11) just in case Haydn's heater won't roast the chestnuts.

Haydn & Kwaka know the way & it's closer to the dock than it is to the river.

Edit; err, it's actually a well stocked bar, I have only mentioned the highlights - not the entire stock!

Does anyone who's been to Foos know what our chances are of getting a table(s) on Sat. night?
As an alternative does Les do food?

I will make enquiries. Foo lives next door to one my houses along the dock, but I won't get to see him until Friday. But I know one of the Sat night waitresses and can call her.

How many do we reckon?

Now that is the million dollar question. It's a bit of a guess, but I'd say around 15ish. Kwackers or Tom might know better.

I'll ask if ten + is a problem.

My spies tell me that Mucky Farter limped into Dinorwic on one engine this afternoon. Hope the old girl is okay.

Royal Welsh can do toasties & pizzas as snacks, but if we are mob-handed & Les is on his own, it will be difficult to set them up. With current H&S regs only people who have done a Kitchen Hygene course can use the microwave or toaster They do have members that are top rated chefs, but they do events on a voluntary basis & I fear we have left too little notice as I assumed most were going to Foo's.

There is a superb British chippy along Bangor Street, not far from the Celtic Royal Hotel. Not the Chinese in the square or the Kebab house at the Square end of Bangor Street (although I'm sure they are fine at what they do).

Black Boy does food, but is not big, Anglesey Arms is the same.

He He! I know I know!!!

There is a limping diesel mechanic looking at her at this moment.......... apparently it's seems to be a simple problem to fix, no doubt H will let us know.

I have said that if it cant be fixed and he only has one engine Little Ship will race him to Victoria Dock

Dont think H could see the funny side of that last night......

Tom

OK. Just talked to Little Ship.
We intend to assemble at 'The Doc' at 13.30 Hours on Saturday the 14th of November 2009

Tiss on yer Port Side at the bottom of the drive down to the Marina.
Parking is available on yer Starboard side.

A liquid lunch is the preference at that Time.
Then an hour or three of 'Boat Inspections' and a General Survey of the layout and facilities in the immediate area.

18.00 hours a further visit to the 'Doc' is proposed for further liquids and solids for those that desire such intake

That is the 'Plan' that L Ship and I suggest.

'Plan' is used rather loosly.
Tom, L Ship was worried if there no basic stucture whatsoever that MC would empty His drinks cabinet.

Mucky Farter is tucked down the Canal a bit (Tom is opposite the Pub by the way) so I might sneek up on hlb.
There is usually a spare packet of fags aboard plus the odd gallon of scotch or two!

Should not be a prob for all you Nautical and expert navigating types.

Now I know I'm not a Welsh speaker, but Y Cei would be The Quay, would it not? So why call it the Doc, which is short for the Doctor? I could, just about, accept the Dock, although that is still very different from a Quay.

Sigh, it's hard enough translating Kwaka's English, but having to interpret his Welsh as well could be a task too far.

Have a good day, I had thought I might be down on my own this Saturday, but family have decided they will risk it anyway - so I may not be able to break away - and anyway, someone wil have to apologise to Les at RWYC!

Don't know where 'The Doc' came from.
Think Little Ship coined the name.

Tiss, Y Cei

Correct tiss The Quay wot translates to Saes.

Kidnapping can be arranged.
Thats a promise any any language!
Gis a bell if that service is required.

Dammit Man, you are so close it would a real shame not to see You.

Like, I could teach yer some Welsh and stuff innit !

I'll see if I can persuade them all to pop in for a bite in the evening. But I have to take care of swmbo, she has a head cold (which she thinks is swine flu) and Sea Rush is on the wall without a ladder, so getting her aboard would be quite a challenge on a nice sunny day when she is in a good mood . . .

I may need Haydn's blue rope to lower her down

She has enough trouble with the steel ladders.

My role in this trip is as driver for the Christmas shopping brigade. Sunday will be the journey home via the shops in Bettws! Sorry about that, it would have been good to see you & Dave & catch up a bit! But lots of "stuff" going on at present, so I need to give the family some time & support. I'll keep in touch if there is another chance. How's Dave's project doing, SBC would be interested.

That a shame but the little Lady's come first.
Enjoy Saturday if you can get to the meet.
Dave has got the MG all cleaned out and the old engine removed and we will be looking at the renovation work soon. He has sold Foxtrot to Gweek Quay at Falmouth so She will be restored without expense getting in the way.

Thought I'd better mention that if any of you cannot make Saturday, most of us will be in the bar on Sunday lunchtime digging into the carvery. Tom and Babs brought round a bottle of vino earlier, to christen the new house but had to sit on the floor as there is no furniture. Later I invited Haydn for a drink in the bar, who unfortunately could only ask for a double whiskey.

It is blowing a hoolie here right now, but is warm and tomorrow should be a nice day. Pity the tides are wrong as I was planning to do RIB rides around the lighthouse.

Strange, even as write this laborously on my iPhone the wind has totally died.

Day Two. Wind has gone, but we were hit by a massive storm at 3 AM. Took Lord and Lady Kilter to the outer harbour and discovered I had nearly lost my small tender.

Kawasaki bought a (small) round of drinks this afternoon and has retired to lick his wounds.

I am now getting ready for the evening where we are all meeting up for a meal in the marina bar.

Have lots of pictures to post when I get back to my PC, including the spectacle of Haydn starting Mucky Farter. Unfortunately Debs has done her back and is confined to quarters.

So sorry Stu, but if you read above and the other thread Victoria Dock cancelled us and we all removed to Port Dinorwic, where have just had a great social day. In fact I have just climbed off Mucky Farter where we were presented with a bar that put Little Ship to shame (disclamer . This in no way invalidates any future offers of drinks aboard LS.)

Sorry Stu, but we did try to make sure every one had seen the change!

Mind you, the 6pm meal time was changed to 7 while I was "off air" and we arrived at Y Cei before everyone else - so we started without them. But then we had to get back to Caernarfon before the tide went out as the isn't a ladder on the berth we were using.

Great to meet so many "old pals" again plus a few new ones. Sorry we couldn't stay longer.

No-one has mentioned Kwaka's tie yet have they? You might have got away with it Richard.

Oh no, the tie is burned into my memory. Kawasaki turned up in his 'court suit' and a very natty tie. In fact it is identical to a tie of my own, which will be in the trash before the day is out.

An interesting fact from this weekend is that I was the only forumite who attended every drink, meal and mini party. I had no idea I was so desperate for friends. Thanks to Debs who put on a most impressive drinks spread I have seen on a boat and to Old Salt who managed to name every person, living and dead, who has ever lived in the North West.

Anyway, a full report will be posted tomorrow complete with pictures of Kwaka in a suit.

Well, that's soon over isn't it! What a very enjoyable weekend, thanks all for the hospitality and company. Thanks to Tom and Kwackers for 'organising' the event, even the weather turned out to be reasonable(ish). Thanks to the Major for erm........no, sorry can't think of anything!

Off now to prepare the photographic evidence!

A jolly good meet! Good to catch up with folks and to meet for the first time with others...although I'm still reeling from the vision of kwackers in a suit! Was the cap surgically removed?

Sorry to miss you Dave, but yes, we were all snug & snoring until about 9.30. Someone told us it had been wet & windy, but I didn't believe them. Yeah, our new conservatory is a great success, I am looking for some cane furniture & some patio plants now. 2 sprayhoods & a bimini all zipped together. It will be interesting to see how it behaves at anchor next . . .

Good to see everybody (sorry Stu!), but I'm really losing patience with this mobo lot - Where are the pictures of "The Accused"?

Such a shame his best suit was let down by an 'iffy' tie

(Oh, and someone said that Burtons in Bangor was missing a dummy )

Thanks also to Mucky Farter for the fine spread and hospitality.

All the best,

Andy

we passed this on the way home from the meet. It is over a wall & several large rocks & gave rise to a fair bit of discussion as to how it could have got there.

The associated report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8360168.stm says the driver was stuck in torrential rain on the Snowdon Pen Y Pass road, so he got into the caravan for shelter - & it floated away!

So don't go joking about "floating Caravans" any more!!!

Back in communication at last, could get nowt in PD so no tinternet, telly every other sentence and no radio.

MF's latest problem, loss of engine coolant, caused as usual by the latest boat mechanic, who had managed to only half screw down the retaining bolt and even then probably cross threaded, so the pipe fell off.

Anyway Abandoned MF in PD cos me backs gone knackered and me legs dont work, Debs feet don't work or her back either. So stuff going to Conwy in the storms.

Tuther thingy to mend. The holding tanks got constipated and only holds about two toilet flushes now. So me and quackers are going to make an inspection hatch and get the major to drop one of his little hand grenades down it.

Want it a good do, little parties and bigger parties. Old Salt kept us all entertained, probably most of PD as well.

Then me back let the job down. Bugger.

BIG thanks to Liz for carting HLB off to the shops, then for help in carting loads of booze back. The toilet jobbie is to be at Conwy so all at PD are safe.

Wow!!
Hi I am new to this place

I am on Anglesey and know all the waters you speak of well..really didn't realise that there was SO much activity out of season here!
So who is meeting in Victoria Doc? Is it open to anyone with a boaty interest?
My Dad has the boat..but I love sailing and would love to meet up with some like minded people - a little crazy from what I can read so far..brilliant!

I come with small kids..but have string that attaches to winches well..keeps them out the soup most of the time

Phew. I wasn't keen on looking out of my bedroom window and seeing jobbies in the dock.
I was a little disappointed not witness an exploding bog.

Dunno about that. MF is not fazed so much by weather, except bouncing off the bottom is not on. Bouncing. Kwackers needs to move the big round fender from starboard to port, it's MF's bow thruster. Arse end out then bounce the front end out, It's a bit of an art.

Anyway crack is, we'll move MF when back gets better, else kwackers will move MF, subject to time weather and tide. WE just need drills and things for the holding tank.

Hi Chrissie, Welcome to the forum. Forum meets - anywhere in the country - are open to any forumite. They are unofficial meets organised by forumites and nothing to do with YBW. The Frostbite meet has been and gone, but we had to abandon Victoria Dock due to the weather and met at Port Dinorwic instead.

The previous meet was earlier in the year at Conwy where we blagged a couple of of the town pontoons and generally enjoyed a convivial weekend with occasional trips to the pub and fish and chip shop.

At PD a few of us ignore the winter weather and keep up a low level of social intercourse, which usually means we visit Little Ship and try and help Tom to reduce the size of his drinks cabinet, or merely get him to make a cup of tea.

Apparently there is a house on the Dock that will be nurturing frozen sailors with tea coffee and wine in the very near future ??

Quite right, we don't want any old riff raff getting in and raiding the drinks cabinet

Hope you have some good pics after you've kept us waiting so long

Default My Pictures

I don't take quite as many pictures as I thought.

But I was woken up on Saturday morning by the roar of two old 200HP Volvos,
shouting people and the sight of a cloud of blue smoke. By the time I had got
my camera the smoke had died down to reveal Muck Farter in take off mode.

The purpose of the execise was to move MF from the far side of the dock and
more it to a more suitable location to devalue the value of my house.

Even after the engines are turned off, the smoke continues to issue forth.

Soon it was time to retire to the pub for some refreshment, where Richard was photographed buying a round.

Obviously, to keep the cost down, he was the only one in the round.

In the evening we met for dinner.

And afterwards we retired to Mucky Farter to plunder the drinks cabinet.

Somehow Liz proved to be tired and emotional.

And again.

And yet again.

Mal, Sultans Kapitein, managed to find the well appointed bar, and thanks to Debs
and H for putting on a splendid spread.

In the morning we retired to Little Ship, where some wine appeared and Mal and
Old Salt were viciously attacked by the sea faring whippet attack dogs.

After Old Salt had fired the noon day gun, at around 11.30, we went back to the
pub for a carvery lunch and then to Phil and Liz's bateau for tea.
