I think I might deploy my special blue string on Saturday, it is a lovely colour, tother advantage is, it hardly needs tieing down at tuther end, just dribble it on the pontoon and pee on it. It's also the reserve trim tab, just move it about a bit and you get a lisp. Tuther boats can be tied with the light weight white ropes, cleats are no good though, so just wrap them round the cabin.
The blue rope was rescued from the poor box at the swindlers in Plymouth, it was there as a sort of anchor, it was a windy day. Trouble with big ropes is, it gets awfull boreing, you cant wear them out, or even scuff them much, well not so you would notice. They are with you for ever, a reminder of your mistake, unlike little ropes that were to small, which are gone in a puff and soon replaced.
Just a thought. I could droop the nice blue rope round Angle Sea and just haul tuther boats round on the wind lass.
Thinking a bit, well were not coming till tomorrow now. Shall I bring some special edition flags, or even a normal one. I can see the special edition ones are getting a bit of a cult following, so may need to stock up with them.

Eber wheres that come from?? I've got a Weberspatcher these days, mind it's still a pile of junk, just like the eber. We use the 20 quid, twenty year old fan heater mostly and save the webber for emergency use. Whether ebber or webber, it's a few hundred quid a night to use.

OK guys (& gals), I have spoken to Les (the Steward at the Royal Welsh) and he will be delighted to offer you our hospitality. You will, of course, need to sign in, but the Guiness is good, they have Jamesons & Laphroiag plus some reasonable wines in small bottles (or big ones if you prefer to buy in bulk!) plus some fancy bottled beers. So at least we will have somewhere warm to go (after Foos? - but not too late, the bar closes at 11) just in case Haydn's heater won't roast the chestnuts.
Haydn & Kwaka know the way & it's closer to the dock than it is to the river.
Edit; err, it's actually a well stocked bar, I have only mentioned the highlights - not the entire stock!

As an alternative does Les do food?
I will make enquiries. Foo lives next door to one my houses along the dock, but I won't get to see him until Friday. But I know one of the Sat night waitresses and can call her.
Royal Welsh can do toasties & pizzas as snacks, but if we are mob-handed & Les is on his own, it will be difficult to set them up. With current H&S regs only people who have done a Kitchen Hygene course can use the microwave or toaster They do have members that are top rated chefs, but they do events on a voluntary basis & I fear we have left too little notice as I assumed most were going to Foo's.
There is a superb British chippy along Bangor Street, not far from the Celtic Royal Hotel. Not the Chinese in the square or the Kebab house at the Square end of Bangor Street (although I'm sure they are fine at what they do).
Black Boy does food, but is not big, Anglesey Arms is the same.

We intend to assemble at 'The Doc' at 13.30 Hours on Saturday the 14th of November 2009
Tiss on yer Port Side at the bottom of the drive down to the Marina.
Parking is available on yer Starboard side.
A liquid lunch is the preference at that Time.
Then an hour or three of 'Boat Inspections' and a General Survey of the layout and facilities in the immediate area.
18.00 hours a further visit to the 'Doc' is proposed for further liquids and solids for those that desire such intake
That is the 'Plan' that L Ship and I suggest.
'Plan' is used rather loosly.
Tom, L Ship was worried if there no basic stucture whatsoever that MC would empty His drinks cabinet.
Mucky Farter is tucked down the Canal a bit (Tom is opposite the Pub by the way) so I might sneek up on hlb.
There is usually a spare packet of fags aboard plus the odd gallon of scotch or two!

Now I know I'm not a Welsh speaker, but Y Cei would be The Quay, would it not? So why call it the Doc, which is short for the Doctor? I could, just about, accept the Dock, although that is still very different from a Quay.
Sigh, it's hard enough translating Kwaka's English, but having to interpret his Welsh as well could be a task too far.

Thought I'd better mention that if any of you cannot make Saturday, most of us will be in the bar on Sunday lunchtime digging into the carvery. Tom and Babs brought round a bottle of vino earlier, to christen the new house but had to sit on the floor as there is no furniture. Later I invited Haydn for a drink in the bar, who unfortunately could only ask for a double whiskey.
It is blowing a hoolie here right now, but is warm and tomorrow should be a nice day. Pity the tides are wrong as I was planning to do RIB rides around the lighthouse.

In fact I have just climbed off Mucky Farter where we were presented with a bar that put Little Ship to shame (disclamer . This in no way invalidates any future offers of drinks aboard LS.)
Sorry Stu, but we did try to make sure every one had seen the change!
Mind you, the 6pm meal time was changed to 7 while I was "off air" and we arrived at Y Cei before everyone else - so we started without them. But then we had to get back to Caernarfon before the tide went out as the isn't a ladder on the berth we were using.
Great to meet so many "old pals" again plus a few new ones. Sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Oh no, the tie is burned into my memory. Kawasaki turned up in his 'court suit' and a very natty tie. In fact it is identical to a tie of my own, which will be in the trash before the day is out.
An interesting fact from this weekend is that I was the only forumite who attended every drink, meal and mini party. I had no idea I was so desperate for friends. Thanks to Debs who put on a most impressive drinks spread I have seen on a boat and to Old Salt who managed to name every person, living and dead, who has ever lived in the North West.
Anyway, a full report will be posted tomorrow complete with pictures of Kwaka in a suit.

Yeah, our new conservatory is a great success, I am looking for some cane furniture & some patio plants now. 2 sprayhoods & a bimini all zipped together. It will be interesting to see how it behaves at anchor next . . .

we passed this on the way home from the meet. It is over a wall & several large rocks & gave rise to a fair bit of discussion as to how it could have got there.
The associated report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8360168.stm says the driver was stuck in torrential rain on the Snowdon Pen Y Pass road, so he got into the caravan for shelter - & it floated away!
So don't go joking about "floating Caravans" any more!!!

Back in communication at last, could get nowt in PD so no tinternet, telly every other sentence and no radio.
MF's latest problem, loss of engine coolant, caused as usual by the latest boat mechanic, who had managed to only half screw down the retaining bolt and even then probably cross threaded, so the pipe fell off.
Anyway Abandoned MF in PD cos me backs gone knackered and me legs dont work, Debs feet don't work or her back either. So stuff going to Conwy in the storms.
Tuther thingy to mend. The holding tanks got constipated and only holds about two toilet flushes now. So me and quackers are going to make an inspection hatch and get the major to drop one of his little hand grenades down it.
Want it a good do, little parties and bigger parties. Old Salt kept us all entertained, probably most of PD as well.
Then me back let the job down. Bugger.

I am on Anglesey and know all the waters you speak of well..really didn't realise that there was SO much activity out of season here!
So who is meeting in Victoria Doc? Is it open to anyone with a boaty interest?
My Dad has the boat..but I love sailing and would love to meet up with some like minded people - a little crazy from what I can read so far..brilliant!
I come with small kids..but have string that attaches to winches well..keeps them out the soup most of the time

Dunno about that. MF is not fazed so much by weather, except bouncing off the bottom is not on. Bouncing. Kwackers needs to move the big round fender from starboard to port, it's MF's bow thruster. Arse end out then bounce the front end out, It's a bit of an art.
Anyway crack is, we'll move MF when back gets better, else kwackers will move MF, subject to time weather and tide. WE just need drills and things for the holding tank.

Hi Chrissie, Welcome to the forum. Forum meets - anywhere in the country - are open to any forumite. They are unofficial meets organised by forumites and nothing to do with YBW. The Frostbite meet has been and gone, but we had to abandon Victoria Dock due to the weather and met at Port Dinorwic instead.
The previous meet was earlier in the year at Conwy where we blagged a couple of of the town pontoons and generally enjoyed a convivial weekend with occasional trips to the pub and fish and chip shop.
At PD a few of us ignore the winter weather and keep up a low level of social intercourse, which usually means we visit Little Ship and try and help Tom to reduce the size of his drinks cabinet, or merely get him to make a cup of tea.

I wish I'd been born rich instead of good looking ?
But I was woken up on Saturday morning by the roar of two old 200HP Volvos,
shouting people and the sight of a cloud of blue smoke. By the time I had got
my camera the smoke had died down to reveal Muck Farter in take off mode.
The purpose of the execise was to move MF from the far side of the dock and
more it to a more suitable location to devalue the value of my house.
Even after the engines are turned off, the smoke continues to issue forth.
Soon it was time to retire to the pub for some refreshment, where Richard was photographed buying a round.
Obviously, to keep the cost down, he was the only one in the round.
In the evening we met for dinner.
And afterwards we retired to Mucky Farter to plunder the drinks cabinet.
Somehow Liz proved to be tired and emotional.
And again.
And yet again.
Mal, Sultans Kapitein, managed to find the well appointed bar, and thanks to Debs
and H for putting on a splendid spread.
In the morning we retired to Little Ship, where some wine appeared and Mal and
Old Salt were viciously attacked by the sea faring whippet attack dogs.
After Old Salt had fired the noon day gun, at around 11.30, we went back to the
pub for a carvery lunch and then to Phil and Liz's bateau for tea.
