My main water tank is 85 gals Aluminium, with a filler, gauge and a Flame arrester breather via a goose neck, all presure tested to 5 bar, it would in fact make a perfect Red Diesel/kerosene tank for my Webasto heating.
My thoughts are to fill the water tank with reduced duty red diesel before it goes up next year and then I could keep topping it up for the heater.
If I do this then a flexible drinking water tanks needs to be stuffed away in a dead space, how long would it last being bounced around at 25 knts ?
Could the set up devalue the boat or will a potential buyer recognise the benefits of a spare 85 gals of 'heating oil' on board [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
I am just sorting through all Moody Blue's paperwork in readiness for handing it over, and came across the bill for a flexible water tank that I fitted a year ago.
Moody Blue had an aluminium tank that SWMBO decided to add Milton to (not a good idea me thinks) totally buggered it.
As the tank is under the front bed the only way out was to cut it half, and obviously there was no way in for a new solid tank, therefore a flexi tank was the only option.
Had one custom made for £317.26, double skinned, no taste problems, a doddle to fit, and a slight weight reduction thrown in.
I did have my reservations at first but would have no hesitation doing the same again.
I am no chemist but I do know that whatever is in Milton Fluid reacts badly with aluminium. It started off with loads of spores on the inside of the tank, that looked like salt crystals, and these eventually ate their way through the tank, (took about 6 months we think).
Interestingly the manufacturer of the Flexi tank that I installed also says never to use Milton, as this reacts with the PVC.
I have two 25 gallon flexible from Air Cushion, (Hovercraft skirts) don't know if they are still going but the tanks are now 16 years old and as taste-free as ever.

I was a little bothered about capacity as all flexible tanks are small, are your bags just joined with a single pipe without the need for two breathers ?
I presume there is no need to empty for winter freezing as long as not left 90%+ full
