Default Alienation

Ok, I'm sure I wont be the first to ask this or the last but the RYA has got a reputation for being aloof to the wants of the common member and has in effect detached its hierarchy from criticism, how does the RYA intend to address this feeling of disafection within the membership? And prove its worth as a representative of boating in general rather than its image as a representative of the wealthy?

I doubt this is true, judging from the number of calls and emails we deal with at HQ.

Of course we could always do better and to that end all staff are undergoing customer service orientated training. If there was general disafection I presume our numbers would be dropping, which they are not.

Not all our policies are supported by the whole membership. That is the penalty we pay for being such a broad church encompassing so many activities.

I do not think we represent only the wealthy, what evidence to you have to substantiate this point? Many of our members own small cruisers and are dinghy sailors and wind surfers, most of whom are "ordinary" folk.

There seems to an air of disafection floating through a lot of the threads on here. Obviously avoiding the issue is a good tactical position to take if you want a career in politics but as the RYA is supposed to be a representative organisation perhaps its time it solicited more polls from its membership on current proposed regulation etc..
