Default You gotta laugh

Just watching an old TV program from the 1960s (I guess) and in the play the Captain is on the Bridge of the ship peering out of the windows with his Binoculars. It is however night time and the Bridge is brightly lit by the lights on the rear wall of the Bridge. This means all the Skipper will see is a reflection of himself. The Helmsman too would be totally blind but he was obviously steering by sight although the compass was located there.
Surely the film makers should have known better and used red lamp or at least sent the Captain on the Wing to use his binos.
