cost to liveaboard?

Sorry - I bet this has been asked before (I can't find it though)

Would anyone have any estimates on the amount of funds required to liveaboard for say 2 years minimum in the Med region (lack of details because this is obviously the dreaming stage still - after many many years of sailing, dreaming, reading, deliveries etc)

Family of 4. GRP boat - sailing vessel.

Quite handy at fixing most things.

Water maker onboard. Can't fish.
Quite happy to rough it - alternative lifestyle.

Or even better - would you be wise enough to know / estimate the comparison in costs of an alternative lifestyle (whatever that is) in the outback in say, Canada, - hunt, grow veg - if choose a temperate province. Is land based cheaper (say buying a camper van?)
