Iridium phone airtime options

We're taking a couple of months off next year to go to the Azores. I've already got an Iridium phone and want airtime and email.

What would be the most cost effective route, e.g. buying minutes or monthly contract?

Are all airtime suppliers priced about the same?

Any advice greatfully received.
