Default Uffa Fox, Avenger Class

I have one of the six Avenger Class yachts, built for racing during the 1960`s. Its in pretty poor condition and requires a complete hull rebuild. Does anybody know what ever happened to the late Uffa Fox`s designs and plans? I would need a complete set of mould shapes for this design.

I`m thinking of strip planking it and finishing with an external veneer cold moulded on, it originally was triple cold moulded, but the glue has failed between layers and the veneers are rotten. However the keelson, cast iron keel and frames are all sound. Anybody any clues on what to do with her? especially if I ca`nt get the mould shapes?

Its a beautiful yacht 27` overall with a beam of just over 7` and supposed to be very fast in her day, everything on deck is stainless steel, and I`ve got everything - winches, deck gear , mast sails and rigging - the lot.

I`d appreciate any help, please!!

All the best,

Jim

Do you have access to a good example of the design, that you can take the lines from? You would then be able to make the necessary corrections for thickness of skin to arrive at the shape of the moulds required.

these people may be able to help:

http://www.uffafox.com/

They don't list the Avenger in the plans they have, but it worth asking.

Have you looked in his books to see if he's included it? A set of lines from a book wouldn't be ideal, but better than nothing.

I think there are drawings of the Avenger in Uffa's "Sailing, Seamanship and Yacht Design". I could have a look for you, and report whether they're any good - the book can be difficult to find, and my copy was absurdly expensive. It's also on the boat, so I couldn't look it up until I'm back aboard next week. But I'm happy to have a look if you'd like.

Alternatively, it's highly probable that the same article appears in "The Best Of Uffa", a book that is currently in print and more easily available. You could have a look for that.

Hope that helps - let me know if you'd like me to check out S, S & YD.
