Record catch off Lofoten A Danish visitor from Copenhagen hooked the fish of his life, and set a new record, when he reeled in a gigantic halibut off the Norwegian archipelago of Lofoten this week.

Søren Beck's catch on Tuesday comes just a few weeks after a German visitor hooked another huge halibut in Norwegian waters.
Beck's proved even bigger, and it took four men to haul in the halibut, called kveite in Norwegian.
It measured 246 centimeters long and 195 centimeters long, and weighed in at 202 kilos (444 pounds).
Local sheriff Asgeir Jakobsen from the Røst og Værøy sheriff's office himself took responsibility for weighing and recording the catch.
Kristian Keskitalo of Wild Water Fishing, a Swedish guide company, was among those helping Beck get the fish out of the water. He said it bit Beck’s hook when Keskitalo had taken him and other Danes out for a fishing trip off Værøy in scenic Lofoten. Beck was guided by Per Jonasson of Wild Water.
A halibut hooked by Stefan Lühering of Germany in April was eight kilos (about 18 pounds) lighter than Beck's. An earlier large catch by another German fishing tourist weighed in at a relatively "small" 138 kilos.
