WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1200 Friday 16th May 2008

SATURDAY:
Low pressure remains over the north of Europe today, with high pressure building to the north of Scotland. A north-easterly airflow covers the country, this becoming strong at times in the southeast.
A dull and damp start to the day in the south of England, periods of rain throughout the morning and these lasting into the afternoon. Most of the rain from south Wales to the Thames Estuary southwards.
Rather cloudy for the rest of England, Wales and Northern Ireland just a low risk of a shower along the cold front over northern England and southwest Scotland.
For the rest of Scotland the day will be drier and brighter. Sunny spells here, the best in the west.
Winds mainly NE 15 (F4) locally 20kt (F5) in the eastern Channel. ENE 15kt (F4) through the Irish Sea and NE 15 (F4). ENE-NE 12 across Scotland (F4).

SUNDAY:
The occluded front retreats southwards through Sunday as pressure builds from the north. A northeast flow persists through all areas.
A fairer day to come on Sunday. Broken cloud for many with the best of the sunshine over western parts of the country.
It should be a dry day everywhere too.
Rather breezy at times over southeast England and eastern parts of the Channel.
If you are planning a trip across the Channel be aware that the northern coasts of France are likely to be in rain, low cloud and mist for much of the day.
Winds NE 25 (F6) through the Channel and southeast England, mainly ENE-NE 10-15 (F4-F5) for much of Wales and England. Mainly ENE-NE 8-12kt (F3-F4) for Scotland.
