Personally, I never wanted to be the skipper - but I ended up that way due to more experience. and a calmer head under real pressure. Though I freely admit that I am more likely to be bothered by minor things.

I am quite happy to be a 'follower' in the presence of someone clearly better/more experienced than I am at whatever-it-is. Which is the case in other areas of life.
