Some fair comment there but don't forget lots of brit buyers are buying for the med and not every brit built boat is seen as the epitome of design and quality. Some of our med friends don't rate brit sports cruisers at all and if you have certain models down there you are stuck with them, no one wants em. I would take exception to your comment that all foreign boats are 'crud', there are a few on here who would take you to task on that one having owned both brit and med built boats and stuck with the med route. Don't forget Italians have been building pleasure grp stuff an awful lot longer than us and know quite a bit about boat building. You of course know that a goodly percentage of the joinery, deck gear, trim, electrical looms, finishes indeed everything from helm seats to teak decking comes from Italy, you maybe surprised walking around some of the joinery shops in Italy to see where the crated up joinery etc is destined for.
And as aside I have seen both ends of the spectrum, some beautifully built med yachts and GB built too but I have also seen some gawd awful brit stuff and a raft of design and quality issues and vise versa.
I think your statement should read more ' buy a quality and recognized brand' rather than just buy on British build. No disrespect to any brit builder or med builder but there is good and bad both sides. Then of course you could chuck scandi builders in there and the likes of windy et al are superb built yachts and fetch secondhand values some brit and med builders can only dream about, haven't noticed any cheapo Botnia Targa's recently that's for sure .
