On Sunday June 29th, whilst heading back to Portsmouth from the RTIW race, I got a rope around the prop. Despite going inshore, anchoring and trying to free the rope by diving (thanks son), we were unable to free it.
I radioed Portsmouth QHM who promptly sent the volunteer Harbour Patrol to my assistance. They gave me a 'blue light' escort as I sailed into Portsmouth Harbour and then tied up alongside to give the power to get us into Haslar Marina.
I would like to publicly thank the two Harbour Patrol volunteers for their courtesy and skill whilst helping me. And also to them, and all the volunteers, for giving up their own free time to help others.
And yes, I will fit a rope cutter next time the boat is out of the water.
