Nonsense? Not many thieves of 8hp outboards are professionals insofar as they'll be bothered or have the facilities to replace serial numbers. Most thieves are opportunists and sell stuff on in pubs, freeads or boatjumbles with serial numbers intact. Supplying a serial number is the the first line in identifying a bent motor or other bit of kit.
