Moonen Shipyards to build 114ft 'Explorer' yacht
By IBI Magazine
Moonen Shipyards has signed a contract to build a long-range 114ft Explorer Yacht, designed by Rene van der Velden with naval architecture by Stolk-Marimecs and the Moonen in-house team. The 114 is Moonen's first entry into the Explorer Yacht market, and she is being built for repeat Moonen clients. The new Explorer will have a top speed of 13 knots. The overall form of the yacht is an updated classic research-type craft, having a powerful, seakindly steel hull with pronounced forward sheer, bold pray chine, topped by a workmanlike aluminium superstructure. The hull will be reinforced to receive a Lloyd's Register Ice Classification for safe high-latitude cruising. Carrying 45,000 litres of fuel, the 114 Explorer promises a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 10 knots. Delivery of the Moonen 114 Explorer is set for spring 2006, and she will initially be berthed in the south of France.
