South Wales Boat Show returns to Margam Park

By IBI Magazine

The 2nd South Wales Boat Show returns to Margam Park this year, bringing together all aspects of watersports from surfers, jet skis, fishing craft, powerboats, canoes, dinghies, trailer-sailors and yachts. According to event organiser Ben Sutcliffe, this year's show, which runs from June 15-17, is expected to attract up to 20,000 visitors. Around £1 million worth of business was generated during last year's show, which ran for just two days, including one boat that sold during set-up on opening night.

"We have had an extremely good response to the second show and are expecting around 150 exhibitors for this year's show, which makes us one of the largest in the UK, in our second year," says Sutcliffe, adding that more than 30 exhibitors have already pledged their commitment to this year's show.

Ground space starts from just £8 per square metre (plus VAT), marquee space with carpet from £30 per square metre (plus VAT), and a 10-berth mini marina on the lake for craft of up to 1.5m (5ft) draft is available on a first-come basis.

"South Wales prides itself on a large contingent of marinas, sailing schools and clubs ranging from dinghy to yacht racing," says Sutcliffe. "There has been an explosion of water-born activities in South Wales since the Cardiff Bay redevelopment and with a vast cash injection being spent in Haverfordwest, Swansea and Milford Haven marinas expanding, along with the new regeneration of Swansea Docks in SA1 which will make it one of the biggest marinas in the UK. Amazingly, a recent survey has quoted Wales having the highest percentage of the population having a water sport interest than anywhere else in the UK."
