SkyMate extends coverage

By IBI Magazine

SkyMate, a US provider of marine satellite communications systems, has announced that its messaging and data services are now available in the South Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand and other parts of Asia. Service will be provided through ORBCOMM's newest gateway Earth station in Rutherglen, eastern Australia.

"This is very exciting news," says SkyMate president John Tandler. "This expanded coverage throughout the broad Asian region will now allow our more adventurous offshore cruisers to keep in touch during extended voyages in the South Pacific."

SkyMate delivers a wide range of services, including telematics, messaging, tracking and weather reports for recreational boaters and commercial fleets. Its systems are available from a network of about 175 authorised dealers located across North America and the Caribbean. The company, which is headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, says that it plans to extend its coverage to the South Atlantic/Indian Ocean by the end of 2007.
