Day 3 Channel Islands & West Country

50° 36.43 002° 27.14 Custom House Quay, Weymouth
Monday 14th August

Lazy day in Weymouth

It was a bright and civilised start to the day for the cruise participants so many people headed to the beach to soak up some rays or into town for some retail therapy. Sealine T46 Endless Summer and Fairline Targa 34 Yoo Hoo were spotted with beach towels in hand, bound for the silver sand of Weymouth.

This morning the owners of Princess 414 Djinksiia were re-united with their dinghy. It was delivered from Poole to Custom House Quay where a crowd had formed. Owners Deb and Greg couldn't believe the tender hadn't sunk as they had left the bung out. They were also surprised to find the outboard still on the transom.

The MBM team carried out jobs in the morning and Cruise leader Neale kept a close eye on the weather. Later in the afternoon they all ventured into town for the first time.

The verdict of tonight's radio briefing is the weather isn't looking good for our scheduled move to Brixham tomorrow. It's also unlikely we will move on Wednesday, as the next possible weather window is Thursday morning. On the upside, Wednesday is Carnival day in Weymouth and there will be fireworks and a Red Arrows flying display.

As I write, the wind has increased in the harbour and numerous Fastnet racing yachts are taking shelter for the night. After a 25-hour weather delay, 271 boats set off from the Squadron line in Cowes this morning for the start of 46th edition of the Rolex Fastnet Race.

We expect heavy rain late this evening and overnight, so everyone has battened down the hatches in anticipation of heavy weather.
