MBM brings you daily reports of the 2008 Round Britain Race (RBR), direct from 40-year-old Gee, the oldest boat in the race.
The 40-foot Jim Wynn-designed Gee led the first RBR in 1969 before fuel problems caused her to retire. She has since been lovingly restored by brothers Chris, Mark and Paul Clayton and now she has been completely gutted to take part in this mammoth challenge.
Almost four decades on and powered by new Cummins QSB 480 diesels, this classic boat, skippered by John Guille, 2005 Round Britain record holder, has a second chance to complete the adventure.
So far the 2008 Round Britain Race has had its fair share of drama with breakdowns, sinkings and one nasty run in with a submarine wall but through it all Gee has triumphed. Follow her adventure and the rest of the Round Britain Race fleet here.
Following the race, we'll be catching up with Gee and her crew for an exclusive feature in the magazine. Keep checking back for more. |
