Leicestershire Police continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman after a body was discovered at Sawley Marina.

The discover was made at around 10.21pm on Sunday within the marina complex in Warren Lane.

An area was cordoned off to allow for forensic examination and this has since been lifted.

Reports suggest that the incident took place at the Derby Motor Boat Club on the site, with Sawley Marine manager Julie Cutts telling the Leicestershire Mercury: “The police investigation was restricted to the Derby Motor Boat Club premises. No officers have been here.”

A 65-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The deceased has not yet been formally identified but it’s believed to be a woman in her 60s.

A post mortem examination has been carried out and further tested are currently being conduced.

DCI Mick Graham, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this stage we’re investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and events leading up to it, our enquiries are ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have been at the marina between 11pm Saturday evening and 11pm Sunday evening and hasn’t yet spoken to the police to come forward.
