A French motorboat was rescued by the RNLI after it grounded whilst fishing at the Ecrehous reef in Jersey.
On Sunday the St Catherine's lifeboat crew were notified that there was a grounded motorboat at the Ecrehouse. Within ten minutes the team had launched a lifeboat and reached the stranded boat just fifteen minutes later.
When the tide went out in the morning, the 8.5 metre French motorboat became stuck on the rocks. The lifeboat crew carried out a visual inspection, agreeing there was no material damage and nothing could be done to help the stranded boat until the tide turned.
After waiting five hours, the tide finally came in and lifted the boat out of the rocks.
Two of the lifeboat crew were onboard the motorboat to make sure that the strong currents and the strengthening wind didn't pose any more problems for navigating out of the tricky reef.
By 4.30pm the stranded boat was freed and the lifeboat had returned to the station.

What's the bet that these guys had already checked their vessel and were perfectly happy to simply wait things out and had requested no assistance. Rescue? I was not aware RNLI had the power to recall the tide.

ah yes the armchair sailors are out again. Charge these idiots?!?! People make mistakes, even the royal navy manage to ground an expensive warship on a well charted reef en route to Australia, they put a surfaced sub on the bottom round the back of Skye cos they were so obviously on the wrong side of a lateral buoy, Those who never made a mistake at sea never left the pontoon, just pontificated about it around the yacht club bar. RNLI crew-been there done that and the lads doubtless enjoyed an opportunity to go and play in a couple of million quids worth of boat

I think a substantial donation to the RNLI by these idiots is what is required.

Ridiculous - and the fact that such stories are promulgated by the press only encourages the Basingstoke Navy or the Armada de France to attempt boating without adequate knowledge, care or sobriety. I would welcome an RYA opinion here.
