OVERALL WINNER: Lewmar OneTouch winch handle

What the judges said:
'The Lewmar OneTouch winch handle won the tough contest thanks to its extremely clever rethinking of a piece of equipment whose formulaic design most people take for granted… Elegant in concept, aesthetically pleasing, strong on detail design, well executed, effective and a great step forward – it ticked all of the essential DAME boxes and is therefore a very worthy winner.'

MARINA EQUIPMENT: Edson pump-out nozzle

What the judges said:
'Pumping out a holding tank can be a potentially messy business but the simple refinement of a neoprene skirt on the Suction Pump-out Nozzle promises to prevent embarrassment for the operator.'

INTERIOR: WAECO Coolmatic CR Compressor refrigerators

What the judges said:
'Leisure marine galley equipment is often poorly designed and so the development of the Coolmatic CR compressor refrigerators range is particularly welcome. These units offer several clever design touches including a lock to allow the cabinet to ventilate when not in use and a very positive latching mechanism.'

MACHINERY: Seatorque Control Enclosed shaft system

What the judges said:
'The enclosed shaft system offers a completely integrated propeller to gearbox solution with low mechanical losses that breaks new ground. A non-rotating, oil-filled, outer casing to the shaft eliminates the need for cutless bearings and shaft seals. The system has a bearing to transmit thrust loads to the hull and it can incorporate a variety of flexible couplings.'

ELECTRONICS: Tracvision M3 Marine Satellite TV System

What the judges said:
''This unit brings fully stabilised satellite television reception to a much broader range of boats thanks to an extremely compact size made possible by redesigning key components.'

INNOVATION: Travel electric engine

What the judges said:
'Imagine if you could have an electric outboard for your tender that had a self-contained battery and weighed less than an equivalent internal combustion engine. Imagine no longer… The Travel uses lithium manganese battery technology in a waterproof housing that strangely mimics the engine cowling of a conventional outboard. However, that’s where any resemblance ceases for this futuristic creation that packs down into a neat carry bag. This could be the product to kick-start a broader interest in electric propulsion for small tenders and inland waterway launches. The jury looks forward to seeing more developments from this company.'
