In this month’s
PBO (January 2004) Dick Everitt takes a look at four waterproof
digital cameras and tests their abilities
The Pentax Optio 33WR and Casio’s GV-20 can tolerate being
dunked in water but must not be used underwater . However the
Sony Cybershot DSC-U60 and the Ricoh Capilo 300G can both be
used down to a depth of a metre or so.
To try and give you an idea how the cameras compare we took
the same scene with each camera. The two main pictures show
the wide angle and zoom capabilities, and the other shows the
quality.
As it’s awkward getting a fair representation on to the
printed page, we have also put the jpegs on this page for you
to download and compare. All the images were taken in a basic
automatic mode, at their finest setting – but to show
you how they could look, the last image has been tweaked slightly
in Photoshop.
