There are 30
National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) lookouts around the British
coast. These maintain a visual and listening watch on VHF channel
16 during daylight hours. Some are equipped with radar, and
in an emergency will communicate with the appropriate Coastguard

Sailors can also call an NCI Lookout to obtain local weather
information.
