1. Eating ashore was excellent and spoiled
for choice. Prices varied from place to place and ranged from
£12 to £18 per person including drinks. |
2. The briefing was superb and very relaxed. |
3. Cala Portals, the caves which line the
shore are ancient tombs dating back to Phoenician times. |
4. The very narrow and popular cove of
Cala Pi, one of the few remote calas sheltered enough to spend
the night. |
5. Cala Pi. |
6. The anchorage of Puerto Colonia de Sant
Jordi, a very pleasant sea side resort town. |
7. The sea front strand of Puerto Colonia
de Sant Jordi. |
8. Hot sunshine, warm clear water and great
snorkelling - all a short 2 hours flight away. |
9. The work station at the mast foot of
this Gib’Sea 43 felt very safe. |
10. Cala Margraner, just before the season
starts you could almost guarantee anchorages like this all to
yourselves and which are inaccessible from land. |
11. Cala Margraner. |
12. Cala Barcas. |
13. Cala Barcas. |
14. Cala Barcas. |
15. The swimming pool of the Club Nautico
at Porto Cristo, this impressive facility comes with the marina
charge of £34. |
16. The Porto Cristo marina from the Club
Nautico swimming pool. |
17. Cala d’Or - the Beverly Hills
of Mallorca and where the rich and famous keep their toys. It’s
the most sheltered harbour in Mallorca and the marina charge
for the night was £57 with nothing like the facilities
of Porto Cristo’s Club Nautico. |
18. The cruising chute was great fun to
sail and ate up the long passages in no time. |
19. The cockpit was very spacious with
twin helming positions and an auto pilot. |
20. This could be mistaken for Virgin Gorda
in the BVIs, but this is the anchorage of Cabrera Sound. At
this point I realised that the Balearics was a serious alternative
to a Caribbean charter and not a poor substitution. |
21. Cabrera Sound. |
22. The spacious galley and huge freezer
to the left. |
23. The Napoleonic castle that watches
over the Cabrera Sound. |
24. The Moorings base at Palma. |
