An eight-day/seven-night tour featuring return ‘cruise ferry’ sailings between Italy-Greece, with visits to Piraeus and including the ultimate Aegean island-hopping voyage calling at over a dozen ports. Wed 7–Wed 15 Sept 2005
We let the plane take the strain by flying from Stansted to Ancona, Italy, before setting sail to Patras, Greece, on the first voyage of a tour bringing more than 120 hours of time afloat. After a day in the enthralling port of Piraeus, we start a specially arranged four-day LANE Lines inter-island voyage aboard former British ferry Vitsentzos Kornaros (ex-Pride of Winchester) that brings calls at more than a dozen ports including such major centres for cruise ship and ferry activity as Heraklion, Rhodes, Kos, Chios and Mytilini. After sailing back to Piraeus with NEL Lines, we return to Patras for an overnight Blue Star Ferries crossing to Bari, flying back to Stansted from the Italian port.

Itinerary
Wed Sept 7
Mid-morning flight to Ancona from Stansted with free time in the bustling ferry port until boarding Superfast 5 (2001/32,728gt) for a non-stop sailing to Patras.
Thur Sept 8
Bridge and engine room visits will be arranged during the morning with Superfast 5 reaching Patras at 1500 when we transfer by coach to Piraeus for hotel overnight.
Fri Sept 9
In addition to enjoying the spectacle of Piraeus Great Harbour and visits to Crete route ferries, there will be an optional visit to Aegina, out by ferry, back by Flying Dolphin hydrofoil. Vitsentzos Kornaros (ex-Pride of Winchester) sails in the evening for Milos and Crete with the first of three nights on board.
Sat Sept 10
After early morning calls at Heraklion and Sitia, the voyage continues via Kasos, Karpathos, Diafani and Chalki for an evening call at Rhodes (with time for a stroll ashore). The vessel then heads north with stops during the night at Kos and Samos.
Sun Sept 11
After morning calls at Chios and Lesvos, Limnos is reached before a late evening arrival in the mainland port of Alexandroupolis with opportunities to go ashore before a third night on board
Mon Sept 12
Vitzentzos Kornaros begins the long voyage south at breakfast time and we leave at Mytilini, Lesvos, for time ashore before joining the NEL Lines’ largest vessel Theofilos for an overnight voyage to Piraeus.
Tues Sept13
There will be time for more Piraeus sightseeing before a train journey to Patras from where we sail for Bari with the Blue Star Ferries vessel Blue Horizon with a late call at Igoumenitsa before the night on board.
Wed Sept 14
Bari is reached at 0830 and there will be a short journey to the airport for a flight to Stansted with arrival at 1330 local time. |
