Those dinghy or catamaran sailors who find themselves shredding
their hands when adjusting the tension on their powerful rigs or
trampoline, should seriously consider putting the new Clamcleat
Power Grip on their Christmas list, writes Sue Pelling.
Simply slot the rope to be tensioned in the jaws of the pocket-sized,
metal-cast cleat, turn it 90 degrees, and the powerful leverage
handle allows you to tension rope up to four times more than you
would with bare hands.
During our test period, we used the Power Grip 2 on a selection
of different dinghies, including rigging the B14. As with many high
performance racing dinghies, the B14 needs an amazing amount of
rig tension, which is almost impossible to apply without the aid
of such a device.
The Power Grip 1 (pictured), designed for singlehanded use, allows
you to pull twice the load. Both versions - the Power Grip 1 and
2 - are available at most dinghy chandleries, retailing at £6.05
and £9.99 respectively. In case of difficulty, log on to www.clamcleat-rope-cleats.com.
