Money for new rope
A keen yachtsman who sailed to work and claimed travel expenses was accused of fraud by his boss. So he took the case to the High Court and won a £10,000 libel payout.
University lecturer Tom McMaster claimed £180 for attending a conference in Ireland which he sailed to aboard his own boat. His superiors at the University of Salford rejected his expense claim describing it as an 'attempted fraud'.
After he took the case to the High Court Salford University had to settle out of court after the judge refused to throw the case out on the grounds it was frivolous.
If I could sail to work I wouldn't put any claims in at all, never mind saving £3,000 a year in train fares, I'd be the richest commuter in the land spiritually.
