Gipsy Moth IV is one of the most famous yachts to have ever set sail and now you can own a priceless memento from Sir Francis Chichester’s boat.
During Yachting Monthly’s campaign to restore Gipsy Moth, the magazine bid for, and won, a mizzen mast winch, keel bolt and section of stern post. YM is now giving them away over the course of Gipsy Moth IV’s second circumnavigation. Each item has been mounted on a mahogany base with a commemorative brass plaque.
The stern post section was presented to one lucky winner during the London Boat Show. The keel bolt went to the next winner when Gipsy Moth reached Sydney, Australia in July 2006. The mizzen mast winch will be presented on the yacht’s return to Plymouth on 28 May 2007, 40 years to the day after Chichester’s triumphant homecoming.
