The
America's Cup regatta began on October 1, 2002 with the Louis Vuitton
Challenger Series. There are nine challengers vying for the Louis
Vuitton Cup and the right to challenge the Defender, Team New Zealand,
for the America's Cup. The winner will go on to the challenge from
February 15, 2003 in the best of nine races. Both competitions will
be battled out on Auckland's spectacular Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand. |

The
America's Cup has captured the hearts and minds of yachting enthusiasts
for over 150 years. The tumultuous history of the 'race for the Auld
Mug' has evolved from transatlantic rivalry to a highly competitive,
global billion dollar business.

With
nine challengers representing six countries, it is predicted to be
one of the best regattas in the event's 149 year history. The successful
team wins the right to challenge Team New Zealand, successful defenders
of the America's Cup in 2000.
The return of the British to the America's Cup after a 15-year absence
will make them the emotional favourites of the crowd.

America's Cup has made itself very comfortable in Auckland, New Zealand.
As a race venue, the Hauraki Gulf could have been designed especially
for the job. And as a base for cup followers, the city is superbly
