Two trampers, one with a broken ankle, were rescued from a trail new Mount Taranaki on New Zealand’s North Island after activating their Fast Find 211 PLB.

“We were tramping the Around the Mountain circuit on Mount
Taranaki. We were at the beginning of
day two and had just reached the stony river crossing – a slippery
boulder strewn creek. Holly went first and luck was against her; she jammed
her foot in some rocks, lost her balance with a heavy pack and fell on
top of her ankle and broke it.

“We had no cellphone reception in an isolated area, and a minimum four-hour tramp out to find it. I would have had to leave Holly behind to do so. The Fast Find 211 PLB beacon saved the day. Within two hours a rescue chopper was winching us out. Amazing!

“We will take the Fast Find 211 PLB everywhere we go
from now on.

“Holly is now the proud owner of a metal plate and 6
screws, and back home with her leg up …a long summer stretches ahead
of her.”
