12/04/17: The Kraken Easter Sculpture at The Club Hotel & Spa, Jersey
The Club Hotel & Spa’s Michelin starred restaurant Bohemia in Jersey have created this impressive sculpture in chocolate for Easter.
The sculpture took five days to create and 25kg of chocolate was used. Head Pastry Chef Ellen de Jager-Smith says:
“We wanted to create something a bit different this Easter so decided to do the lost treasure of Easter. We created a treasure chest with golden mini Easter eggs inside. Obviously lost treasure needs to be protected so we created the Jersey Kraken to protect it! The chocolate sculpture took five days to make and we used 25kg of chocolate.”

30/03/17: Spirit Yachts announces its new superyacht
British modern classic yacht company, Spirit Yachts has received a new order for a 34-metre sailing superyacht, the Spirit 111, from an overseas buyer. The sloop-rigged superyacht is set to be the largest build from Spirit Yachts to date, and sees the Suffolk-based yard’s first partnership with yacht design agency, Rhoades Young
24/03/17: Tracy Edwards’ iconic Maiden is heading home
The 1989/90 Whitbread Round the World yacht, Maiden, is expected to leave the Seychelles on 26 March for the UK. The yacht will then be restored, and used to inspire women to take up sailing and challenge the perception of what women are capable of

23/03/17: All smiles at Laurent Giles as it turns 90
The team at naval architects Laurent Gile. The firm was founded in 1927 and quickly established itself as a pioneer, designing the first all-aluminum offshore racing yacht, Gulvain, and was one of the first to adopt GRP construction in the early 1960’s.
Over the last 90 years, Laurent Giles has worked with the likes of Lurssen, Abeking & Rasmussen, Nobiskrug, Fincantieri, Benetti, DML, Pendennis and Viareggio Superyachts

Dongfeng Race Team have selected Carolijn Brouwer and Marie Riou for their Volvo Ocean Race campaign in 2017-18.

09/03/2017: Mystery of Cornish ‘ghost ship’ solved
A so-called ‘ghost ship’ which ran aground on a beach in north Cornwall has been identified as RMAS Appleby. The boat broke free from its moorings and drifted across the Camel Estuary before coming to rest between Rock and Daymer Bay

06/03/2017: Rusting ‘ghost ship’ to be restored for new Liverpool-Wales ferry service
A former German ferry, which has been renamed Endeavour, is being restored to provide a new Liverpool-Llandudno ferry service. The vessel was abandoned at Canada Dock in Liverpool more than 20 years ago, and is known as the city’s ‘ghost ship’

02/03/17: Alex Thomson and Hugo Boss are shortlisted for BT Award
Alex Thomson Racing and HUGO BOSS are through to the shortlist for the Team or Individual Sponsorship of the Year title in the 2017 BT Sport Industry Awards (BTSIA).
The awards, which take place annually, recognise the ‘best of the best’ sporting activations, agencies, campaigns, events, sponsorships and more.
In a media release, Alex Thomson Racing noted that 2016 was a standout year for their partnership with HUGO BOSS.
The year included the release of The Skywalk – the third instalment in a trilogy of stunts executed by Alex Thomson, which was viewed by millions of people worldwide.

24/02/17: Conrad Colman crosses the finish line
Kiwi skipper Conrad Colman has gone down in Vendée Globe history as the first person to complete the race without using fossil energy. This is despite the fact he was dismasted earlier in the month. He finished in 110 days, 1 hour, 58 minutes and 41 seconds, taking 16th place

22/02/17: MV Polarstern’s on year long Arctic expedition
To facilitate climate research, the German research vessel, MV Polarstern, will become encased in ice and slowly drift around the Arctic.
The so-called Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) project will take a year, and is scheduled to begin in 2019.
Researchers will travel 1,550 miles gathering data and taking measurements to try and gain “a new and absolutely fascinating insight into the climate system.”
