Yorkshire team set to represent England in round the world yacht race
The English team will go head to head with Scotland and seven other countries in the Clipper round the world boat race.
It’s a 40,000 mile contest starting in Southampton
on the 31st July. England’s boat is called Welcome to Yorkshire as part of a marketing campaign to get more tourists holidaying in
the county.
The team will be lead by elite skipper
Rupert Dean who has lead crews twice previously for England in the Clipper
race.
He says, “I have every intention of winning
Clipper 11-12. To manage a complete campaign from start to finish is an
opportunity I relish.”
The announcement was made in Captain James Cook’s
hometown of Whitby to mark the county’s maritime heritage.
