The body of a man who drowned trying to rescue his teenage daughter has been found in the Thames

Police officers have found the body of a man who died while trying to rescue his teenage daughter from drowning.

On Thursday evening the 13-year-old girl went swimming with friends when she got into trouble. The man, who was having a picnic with friends and family nearby, jumped into the water to rescue her. She made it out of the water at Cookham Lock, Buckinghamshire, safely.

It’s believed the man ‘got into difficulties’ after entering the water.

The Sun has named him as Michael Payne, aged in his 50s and registered disabled.

Specialist officers who were searching for the missing man uncovered the body at 12.20pm today.

According to the Bucks Free Press, family members were waiting at the scene for news and later identified the body.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
